How to change pre-req which is in use for more than 10 applications in MECM

Question

We have an application for example Dotnet which will be pre-req for multiple applications. If a new upgrade comes and which is in the process of modification. Will this effects all the remaining applications.

What is the best practices to be followed

    The latest version of Dotnet might have backward compatibility. But better to test this and confirm.
