MS 365 Apps 2102 – Updates using SCCM

Question

Hi Team,

We are pushing updates for MS 365 Apps every month and for few of the machines, MS 365 Apps patches are not installing and not appearing in Software Center at all.
After digging into the logs, I got below under updatedeployment.logs.

Assignment({CB3XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX}) already in progress state (AssignmentStateDetecting). No need to evaluate UpdatesDeploymentAgent 14/01/2022 11:22:33 8096 (0x1FA0)

When we checked the monitoring tab for the deployment, it shows compliant without any status message. (PFA for reference)

We already faced the same issue with windows updates few months back, where we were unable to push patch from SCCM to the device and getting the same error as (0x87d00215). It was due to the unstable state of devices as it was missing the lastest servicing stack and devices was not patched from almost more than one year. Hence we were able to resolve it.

But this case is different, we have pushed the MS 365 Apps – Semi Annual – 64bit as an application deployment in September itself and started patching it from November.
Please help on this.

    Thanks Anoop, I will try to do further analysis on this as its a patching week so may need some more time to analyze.

  1. I think this is really a tricky issues and you might need to perform some deep dive troubleshooting to find out the exact cause of this behavior.

    I think:
    1. Isolate the issue – Identify the machines which has the issue and the ones without any issue.
    2. Compare it to understand the differences.

    0x87d00215 mean item not found. It seems something is missing and I don’t know what it’s without further analysis.
